Charging network IONNA announced an exciting new partnership this week with Casey’s, one of the nation’s largest convenience store and pizza chains, to roll out DC fast chargers across the Midwest, an area where EV charging is underserved.

Beginning later this year, Casey’s customers will be able to plug into IONNA’s 400 kW fast chargers while grabbing a slice of pizza or road-trip essentials. Eight of these “Rechargeries” are already under construction across six states, with openings slated for 2025 in Little Rock, Arkansas; Vernon Hills, Illinois; McHenry, Illinois; Terre Haute, Indiana; Parkville, Missouri; Kearney, Missouri; Blackwell, Oklahoma; and Waco, Texas.

The Casey’s partnership pushes IONNA’s footprint past 900 charging bays either operating or under construction, more than double its total just three months ago. While IONNA confirmed the partnership will expand, the company did not share further details.

“This partnership with Casey’s is key to expanding our presence in America’s heartland,” said IONNA CEO Seth Cutler. “With a shared commitment to quality customer experiences, we’re thrilled to welcome Casey’s to our growing network of partners.”

Casey’s General Stores, Inc. is one of the largest convenience store chains in the United States, headquartered in Ankeny, Iowa. Founded in 1959, Casey’s operates more than 2,500 stores across 16 states, primarily in the Midwest. The chain is best known for its convenience offerings, including fuel, snacks, groceries, and freshly made pizza, which has become a signature product.

Casey’s focuses on community-oriented service and often locates stores in smaller towns and suburban areas, making it a convenient stop for road trips and daily errands. The company has consistently embraced new services, including EV charging, to cater to evolving customer needs and support sustainable transportation.

IONNA, a joint venture formed by BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, and Toyota, has set an ambitious goal to deploy 30,000 high-powered EV charging bays across North America by 2030. This target aims to establish a robust and accessible charging infrastructure, supporting both urban and long-distance electric vehicle mobility.

As of mid-2025, IONNA has contracted over 3,000 charging bays, with more than 400 currently under construction. The network includes various station types such as Rechargery, Rechargery Relay, Rechargery @, and Rechargery Beacon, each designed to cater to different driver needs and locations. These stations are equipped with 400 kW DC fast chargers and support both NACS and CCS charging standards, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of EVs.

IONNA’s expansion strategy focuses on partnerships with major convenience store chains like Wawa and Sheetz, aiming to integrate EV charging into everyday stops for drivers. This approach not only increases the number of charging locations but also enhances the convenience and accessibility of EV charging across the United States.

The overarching goal of 30,000 charging bays by 2030 positions IONNA as a significant player in the EV charging landscape, contributing to broader efforts to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles and support sustainable transportation infrastructure.
